Expanding Passwordless X.1280 in Ecuador: Training Delivered to ESCOM

The Passwordless Alliance recently wrapped up a successful three-day online training program with the Ecuador Army School of Communications (ESCOM), focused on ITU-T X.1280 — the international standard for passwordless authentication — and its free software implementation. Led by experts from DualAuth, a technology member of the Alliance, the program included in-depth sessions on understanding the X.1280 standard — which was originally proposed to the ITU-T by Korea — as well as practical training on installing and configuring the open-source Passwordless X1280 tools. Participants also learned to diagnose and resolve potential challenges in local network environments, ensuring a smooth rollout of the technology in real-world settings.
Among the 20 Ecuadorian cybersecurity professionals who attended the training, four successfully earned the official Passwordless Education Member (PEM) certification after passing an exam organized by the forum on May 20. ESCOM shared plans to build on this momentum by using these newly certified experts to develop its own training programs, aiming to expand X.1280 technology throughout Ecuador’s universities, public agencies, and healthcare facilities.
Nelson Prado, head of ESCOM, commented:
“Local experts showed a strong interest in X.1280-based authentication technology, which is more economical and practical than traditional biometric methods. We plan to use these trained instructors to lay the groundwork for adoption across Spanish-speaking countries.”
The Passwordless Alliance will continue to supply X.1280 technology and free software to more countries and take the lead in building a safe digital world without passwords.
